1st place in a public architectural competition: LIBEREC – PAPÍROVÉ NÁMĚSTÍ
The competitional dialogue concerned a proposal of an urbanistic and functional solution to the area of so called Papírové square, which is, at this moment, an inner periphery of the statutory city of Liberec. The vincinity of the so called Papírové square is one of the most valuable areas in the very heart of Liberec city. Its unique urbanistically grown structure is a last memory of the “old” Liberec – there is no other quarter like this in the city anymore. At this moment, however, it is a shattered husk of a city quarter without a larger number of permanent residents.
The winner of the competitional dialogue shall be tasked with the preparation of an overall idea of development in the form of a “masterplan,” which will present, apart from urbanistic-architectural principles, the principles leading to securing of a planned use and regulation of municipal and private construction. On this basis, a detailed Territorial study of the area (serving also as the documentation for changes in the territorial plan) and architectural-landscaping proposal of the City Terraces shall be created. It will, afterwards, be expanded into a complete project documentation and subsequent realization.

We are preparing a conceptual study of the Černý Most bus terminal
Černý Most is an interesting task because it combines the themes of the identity of the city of Prague (through its role as a gateway to the city), the identity of the housing estate through its role as a center in the everyday life of locals, and issues of dealing with almost contemporary architecture in the breadth of moral, aesthetic and environmental aspects.
We won the 1st place in the selection procedure of the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR).

REFLEXIE ARCHITEKTÚRY (REFLECTION OF ARCHITECTURE), cycle of lectures at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava
“The project Reflection of Architecture focuses on contemporary architecture with an emphasis on the current architectural discussion. The project was created in the spring of 2016 on the premises of the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak University of Technology within the preparation of the subject Current Trends in Architecture, which is intended for students of the last year of study. From the very beginning, the project aimed not only to expand the syllabi of the subject, but especially to create a platform for an open communication between the academic environment, the protagonists of contemporary architecture and the public, and thus raise awareness of architecture in the general public. The ambition of the project is therefore to place the current architectural discussion in a broader cultural, economic, historical and geographical context, while drawing attention to the internal architectural context as well as the direct connection between architecture and society. The project gives an idea of current trends, leading personalities, schools or architectural groups. It focuses on uncovering phenomena and processes, which are behind the origin of contemporary architecture, or which directly affect it.” Michal Kuzemenský lectured as part of the series on April 12, 2017.

ARCHITECTURE GUIDE / SOUTH BOHEMIA REGION AND UPPER AUSTRIA
“The dual publication guide to architecture deals with public buildings that were built after 1990 in smaller municipalities and cities in regions of South Bohemia and Upper Austria. It does not primarily monitor their aesthetic qualities but focuses on those projects that were created on the basis of an architectural competition or are the result of long-term conceptual cooperation between the municipality and the architect. The result is a selection of 75 municipal buildings of various scales and typologies (town halls, fire stations, schools, morgues, village squares, boiler rooms, or collection yards), which should serve as examples worth following. The guide is intended for anyone who is interested in the current architecture built from public budgets and has some opportunity to influence the process of its realization. It encourages the reader to visit specific public buildings and public spaces and provides important information and data about them (e.g. how to choose an architect, usable area, or investment costs).”

NORMA SPACE – Lecture within the series Cooperation\\ Martin Jančok – Ondřej Synek
About the dialogue in time with the authors of important buildings during their reconstruction with Martin Jančok (Plural) and Ondřej Synek (re:architekti).
The first lecture in the NORMA SPACE gallery from the Cooperation series will present a type of “between time” cooperation, in which the contemporary architect finds himself in an indirect dialogue with the author of the building he is reconstructing. The studio re:architekti recently participated in the project BUILDING UPON BUILDING, in which they solved the completion of the construction of the grammar school Gymnázium J. K. Tyla in Hradec Králové designed by Josef Gočár. Martin Jančok is engaged for long time in the restoration of the neological synagogue in Žilina designed by Petr Behrens.
How the confrontation with iconic architects manifests itself in the design process will be presented in lectures and developed in a moderated discussion with Vltava Radio host Jaroslava Haladová.

Nomination for the award Architekt roku 2016 (Architect of the Year 2016)
Michal Kuzemenský is nominated for the Architect of the Year 2016 award. Jury’s reasoning (Josef Pleskot, Adam Gebrian, Antonín Novák, Regina Loukotová, Osamu Okamura) for the nomination:
“In the last five years, together with Ondřej Synek, he has been devoted to his work as the head of an architectural atelier at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, and the results of their students speak for themselves. Many awards in various student competitions are just an accompanying phenomenon of the exemplary work they do at the faculty. Among other things, they consistently post all their activities connected to their atelier teaching on their own blog, where you can see the course of activities within their atelier – from assignments through consultations to results. Everything is complemented by articles with more general reflection.
In addition, five years ago he founded a successful architectural firm re:architekti with a generation younger colleagues, which focuses on a whole range of projects. Their systematic work for the municipality of Úsilné was selected by the jury as a short nomination for the Architekt obci 2016 award (Architect to the municipality 2016) thanks to their long-term cooperation between architects and local government, which is beneficial and important especially for the quality of life and the cultural development of the residents and our society.“
Other nominees: Marcela Steinbachová, Zdeněk Sendler, Ivan Kroupa, Yvette Vašourková and Igor Kovačević
The Architect of the Year Award is given to a person or persons who have significantly contributed to architecture in the Czech Republic with their innovative approach in the past period of 5 years through specific creative or organizational actions in the field of house design, urban development and landscape design but also through theoretical, educational, promotional, publishing and popularization work. Part of the ceremonial announcement of the results will also be the Award of the Architect to the Municipality, of the Tandem Architect – municipality, which has significantly contributed to the development of public space.

text for the catalog and the exhibition UMPRUM ATTACK
Michal Kuzemenský, text for the catalog and the exhibition and UMPRUM ATTACK, p. 55/56, © Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, 2016, ISBN 978-80-86863-84-9
“The catalog presents a selection of student works that were created during the last school year. The exhibiting students were selected according to the criterion of greater or lesser attack (meant positively, but decisively) against a discipline, medium or convention and the contemporary world in general. In addition, the catalog publishes texts of a number of critically and positively distinctive personalities, often with foreign experience, were invited to comment on the existing system of training and the situation of graduates (Dominika Applová, Helena Doudová, Vlastimil Havlík, Pavel Hnilička, Matěj Chabera, Ondřej Chorý, Olo Křížová, Michal Kuzemenský, Petra Matějovičová, Aleš Najbrt, Petr Nový, Sylva Petrová, Tomáš Pospiszyl, Veronika Ruppert, Evžen Šimera and Alan Záruba). The intention of the concept is to bring feedback to the school and at the same time to activate the mutual interaction of the school and the external environment. The UMPRUM ATTACK! exhibition had a sneak preview in the Studio of Graphic Design and Visual Communication, in which everything was concentrated into one “Attack Environment”. The photographer Václav Jirásek then shot this whole, which might be reminiscent of a cabinet of curiosities, surreal environment or set design of an imaginary space. Its appeal lays primarily in the fact that the most important things that characterize UMPRUM were concentrated in one space – namely the interaction and exchange of energy between the students themselves, which is not directed, and for that is all the more immediately intense.

“The guest of the 135th volume of Bourání was the architect and university pedagogue Michal Kuzemenský, who had already joined us in Bourání once, about four years ago.
This time, the topic of our interview was the Yearbook of Czech Architecture from Prostor Publishing House, which had been recently published and Michal is the curator. That is, the author who selected the set of houses published in it.
We talked about the selection process, the processing of data sent by architects, the fact that architects often do not fulfill the assignment set by someone else. But there were also more serious topics, especially the lack of feedback, the small amount of mutual criticism and zero state support for acts such as the Yearbook of Architecture. At the very end of the interview, there were things that no one has opened up about / discussed before.”
